Whakapapa: written in response to a poem sent by a friend. The poem had a number of ‘thee’s’ and ‘thy’s’ within it & touched me deeply though I didn’t understand why. I found myself caught in a moment of decision. I could go up in my head & analyse the poem or simply stay with the feelings & images that were constellating within me. I chose the latter & wrote this poem. It began with the sense of mystery & unknowing I was experiencing. Images then began to arise including being the captain of the Titanic as it slips beneath the Atlantic Ocean. I have been listening to Bob Dylan’s beautiful apocalyptic song ‘Tempest’ recently (based on the sinking of the Titanic). The final words of the poem ‘I will be found’ (6/2/13) came from a female voice out of the silence of deep listening. It was a powerful & totally determined voice. ‘The gingham dress’ is the Sacred Feminine.
