Song 9
I watch you
Leap
Rock
To
Rock
Across the rising creek
Of
All
I am afraid
To
Be
You
Are
The
Yoga
Of
Poetry
Passionate
Proud
Sensual
&
I
Your
Awakened
Love
Aroused
Ardent
Awkward
Ever
Fumbling
At
The
Buttons
Of your blue dress

The image of leaping from rock to rock comes from when I was tramping in the Mokihinui Valley. I was attempting to cross a stream by myself when two more experience trampers crossed just below me. They focussed then leapt from rock to rock pausing ever so slightly before each leap… but remaining constantly in motion. To hesitate is to fall. The leaping process is very present when I write poetry. I follow my intuition leaping from image to image trusting the leaping process: to pause (too long) often leads to a letting go of intuition & a subsequent loss of inspiration. Poetry (for me) is a yoga, in that, if I truly follow the leaping process, I am transformed as I leap from ‘rock to rock/ above the rising creek of all I am afraid to be’. I discover myself on a new shore in my journey of becoming; constantly entering a new & deepening relationship with myself, others & the world.
