Like
Mother
India’s
Goddess Cows
You
Pour
Your
Sustaining
Love
Into
The
Begging
Bowl
Of my days
Yours is the yoga of constant love
Mine the yoga of fire
I
Become
Death
&
Life
Wound
&
Healing balm
Yet
It is mine alone to acknowledge
Your faithfulness
To
Kneel
Reverent
In
The
Temple of your life
Proclaim
The enduring milk
Of
Your
Consistent Love

Written during a difficult & painful time in my relationship with Annette. This poem acknowledges Annette’s consistent love for me. The poem works around two ‘yoga’ images: ‘the yoga of constant love’ & ‘the yoga of fire’. It draws upon two ‘God images’ from ancient India. Firstly: the image of the constant sustaining love of the Goddess, as exemplified by sacred cows giving milk. Annette lives out this energy in so many lovely ways both in her relationship to me & to her family and to her circle of friends. The second is the image of the God(s) associated with fire; (Shiva, Agni, Narada & Kali). These Gods are associated with the destruction of the old in order to bring new life. My own energies, as healer & poet, are often aligned with fire.
