Recently ‘the Voice’ spoke as I was waking from sleep: ‘Closing the bud to every desire, quells the birth of the Holy Fire.’(21/5/12) Desire can be a great teacher and faithful friend. Some spiritual traditions mistrust both the soul & desire. However if we close to ‘the bud of every desire’ we can close to the birth of the soul. ‘True Nature’ is the ‘God-spark’ or the ‘Self’. It is out of our True Nature our dreams arise… leading & guiding us… ever beyond… the constraints of our ego’s constant craving for security… which is often what is preventing us embarking on the new path opening before us. The ‘staff’ ‘is related to the symbol of fire & consequently fertility & regeneration.’ 1) – It is ‘the seed of minds most troublesome questions’… those questions we would most avoid… that hold the potential to inseminate us with the new life & direction we are seeking. I’m increasingly aware of the intimate connections between sexuality & spirituality. I have been exploring these connections recently as I’ve read a number of books by David Deida: including ‘The Way of the Superior Man’. These intimate connections undergird the poem.
